Such a Good Feeling

Dearest Internet,

This is something I wanted to sketch blog about for a while. As an avid cardigan lover and sneaker enthusiast, in my eyes Fred Rogers is certainly a fashion icon. Style choice aside, I think what strikes me most is how much he reminded me of my grandmother who was a calming voice and moral compass in my youth.

Fred Rogers was ahead of his time when it came to understanding emotional intelligence. Rewatching his shows now as a parent is fascinating to me as he went beyond the usual fare of children’s entertainment. Where some content for kids will breeze by difficult discussions, like being scared of visiting the doctor, he would open up discussion on understanding what scares us about these experiences. Mister Rogers famously addressed issues at the time around the Vietnam war, or assassination. He was bold in his message about tolerance and acceptance, especially towards issues of race or disability.
